There are approximately 128 species with in the Maple tree family which are native to Asia and Europe. Unfortunately, 54 species of maples meet the criteria for being under threat of extinction in their native habitat. Their roots system can are generally dense and fibrous, and leaves are usually palmate veined and lobed with about 3-9 (rarely 13) veins leading to lobes.
